The Seminar is an initiative by the scientific team of post graduate course of Athens University School of Medicine, led by Mr.Theofilos Rosenberg MD PhD Professor of Surgery, with a view to supporting scientific knowledge exchange and introducing sound practices for physicians and other Community Medicine volunteers.

The number of people living in the streets, such as homeless people, substance abusers, immigrants and prostitutes, has increased dramatically, particularly under the current socio-economic conditions. Consequently street work interventions, which just few decades ago were considered innovative interventions, have, nowadays, turned into an absolute necessity. This “new” emerging medical specialty of “Street Medicine” calls not only for specific knowledge but also for fortitude, willpower and determination.

The winder this year has already been quite hard on population groups which despite being particularly susceptible to sickness, due to their harsh living conditions, they’re still denied access to basic health care services. Now, more than ever before, there is imperative need for coordinated action on the part of social solidarity institutions.

The seminar will take place on Friday, December 13th, at the newly built Community Center of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, located on 15 Meg. Vasiliou Str at Rouf, with the participation of Municipality of Athens, the Athens Medical Association, the Organization Against Drugs (OKANA), as well as NGOs and Community Clinics.
