-They are people, like the 45 year-old Theodore X., who suffers from progressive cancer and needs to have a CT scan (Computed Tomography Scan). He needs to undergo surgery and chemotherapy, and yet no Public Health Service can offer appropriate treatment.
-They are people, like the 4 year-old Nikoleta B., who suffers from epileptic seizures and lives with her unemployed mother. Young Nikoleta needs to have a brain scan and lab tests, she is in need of medicines and vaccines, and yet there is no Public Health Service which she can turn to.
-They are people, like asylum seeker Grace E. from Nigeria, who in the fifth month of her pregnancy has been denied free access to routine blood tests to which she is entitled. It is an indefeasible right, recognized by the legislation in force. Sadly, she has been denied free medical care at 3 other hospitals. At the intervention of MdM, a private sponsor ensured Grace’s access to medical services. There was no Public Health Service to care for her and her baby.
-They are people, like the 6 year-old Aggelos G., who suffers from type 1 diabetes mellitus. He lives with his parents who are both unemployed. He needs to have his blood sugar levels checked several times a day. He needs to take insulin and be on a balanced diet. He lives in a home without electricity and heating. He needs frequent medical attention and care in order to be able to have a normal childhood. There is no Public Health Service to cover his medical needs.
– They are people, like the 50 year-old George X., who suffers from chronic intestinal disease, is unemployed and has a family. He needs to have laboratory tests and biopsy done. He needs medicines and medical surveillance due to complications of his condition. He has no access to the Public Health System.
