As part of “ADAMANTIADA” program, volunteer pediatric dentists and a fully equipped Mobile Dental Unit conduct awareness campaigns to 60 elementary schools within the Municipality of Athens and carry out primary examination of children’s oral health. Pediatric dentists, who staff the mobile unit, examine the oral cavities and give fluoride treatments to 7,500 children in Athens. The main aim of the program is to refer for treatment children, whose families cannot afford primary dental care. The more challenging dental cases are being  referred to MdM Open Polyclinic in downtown Athens and to the Municipal Clinic of Athens.

“ADAMANTIADA” initiative will be presented at the Press Conference, by the members of the  scientific committee of the project: Mr. Christos Naoumis Dentist – Periodontist, volunteer Dentist for Médecins du Monde; Mr. Nikitas Kanakis, Pediatric Dentist, Scientist Responsible for the Action, Secretary-General of Médecins du Monde; Dr. Michael Kalavritinos, Dentist, Orthodontist, in charge of Treatment Interventions, Vice President of the Greek Orthodontic Society; Mr. Panagiotis Viglas, Dentist, Secretary-General of the Greek Dental Federation; Mr Antonios Ampariotis, Dentist, Municipal Health Clinics of Athens, In charge of Development, Infrastructure and Consumables. Mrs Anna Mailli, President of Médecins du Monde,will greet the Conference.

ADAMANTIADA project (Initiative Addressing Primary Dental Needs of Children of Athens), which is part of the Operational Program “Human Resources Development”, is carried out with the  support of the initiative of General Secretariat for Public Health of the Ministry of Health and Médecins du Monde and implemented in collaboration with the Municipality of Athens.                                                                

“ADAMANTIADA” initiative aspires to assume a more permanent character and become an established recurring institution, by means of attracting sponsors and gradually bringing into play more Local Authority members, as well as members of the academic and scientific community from all over Greece.
