By the side of those who need us

From house to house, from village to village, our team offered care to our fellow human beings, conducting medical examinations, giving kinds of protection but also discussing the anxieties and all the problems that must be addressed.

Immediately after the catastrophic earthquakes in the area of Elassona, we contacted the local regional and municipal authorities in order to organize our mission by offering assistance to the residents. Having the experience from previous missions inside and outside the Greek borders, we were well aware of the difficulties that must be addressed immediately for the health of the inhabitants..

Our nine-member team started from Athens and arrived in Elassona on Saturday, March 6, carrying material aid (tents, substrates, sleeping bags, blankets, masks, medical & paramedical supplies, etc.) that it distributed to those people who lived outside their homes. either because of the disaster or the great agony and fear that existed.

We found ourselves next to people who were scared and distressed. Well-known figures, we had seen them before, back in 1999 in Athens and Turkey, in 2004 in Sri Lanka, in 2014 in Kefalonia and in 2019 in Albania. Fear, anxiety and anger are the same everywhere in such difficult times. Health risks as well. But this time there was also the risk of the pandemic, with which we have all been living for a year now.

We started from the camp in Damasi where tents have been set up for people who cannot stay in their homes. We provided the necessary materials for the protection of the people and we collaborated with other groups so that the help could reach even more people. We examined the people, to be first of all in good health and talked with them about the fear and insecurity they feels for the future. Mental health is shaken in these conditions immediately.

We continued to the nearby villages of the area, encountering damaged houses everywhere. In Mesochori, Vlachogianni, Amouri, Pretori, Magoula and Domeniko, from house to house, our residents welcomed us with relief. We talked to them, examined them and recorded the needs for further assistance.

As earthquakes continue in the area, we are doing what we have learned so many years in the field. To stay by the side of those in need. Not to leave anyone alone.

Support our actions so that we can offer even more to our fellow citizens, by making a donation
