Vulnerable groups are categories of the general population of a country which due to difficulties encountered in various areas of their lives are in danger of suffering the consequences of social exclusion. In Greece, there are many vulnerable groups who face multiple barriers and discrimination while trying to access healthcare, education, employment and other areas of social life. Among these groups there are refugees, immigrants, unemployed individuals, drug addicts, homeless people, Roma, women and children.
Access to health care is a constitutional right often violated in the European region. Medecins du Monde began a campaign to promote the right to health care for immigrants who are denied healthcare in Europe.
The victims are often targeted because of their immigrant status rather than by their gender or age. These incidents usually occur in the morning in the Agios Panteleimon area and are systematic attacks that aim to “cleanse the area.”With great anxiety and concern, MdM-Greece watches racist attacks by “indignant citizens” multiplying. Victims are immigrants of all ages and both genders. These events always happen in the morning in the Agios Panteleimon area. The attacks are a systematic program aimed at “area cleansing.”
