The MdM delegation met with both the hunger striker’s attending physicians and the hospital director who are in charge of monitoring the health condition of Mr Sakkas. The hunger striker’s attending physicians expressed their concerns over the rapid deterioration of Mr. Sakkas’ health and in particular the impending risk of him suffering a massive heart attack.

We were barred from meeting the hunger striker by the officer on guard duty, despite the fact that the attending physicians and the hunger striker himself did not  have any objections.

Médecins du Monde, which is a humanitarian organization that defends the right to life, express their deep concern for the striker’s health deterioration and the fact that his life is at risk.

MdM call for all legal procedures, established by the Constitution, to be followed, in order to ensure that the hunger striker is treated fairly and in full accordance with the rules of our legal culture.

MdM feel the need -without intruding into the judicial part of the case- to appeal to all persons in charge for compassion and leniency, so that the hunger strike can come to an end and thus avoid the risk of the hunger striker losing his life, as a collateral loss.
