The term “neglected”-and not “sanitary bombs”-was used by Mr. Nikitas Kanakis, the General Secretary of the Board of Directors, when describing the third country nationals that are detained in Amigdaleza, in a statement he made in the Greek Journal “Eleftheros Typos” Sunday Edition, following the assessment mission of the organization at the Detention Centers for Migrants in Amigdaleza, approximately two weeks ago. At that time, the organization was invited, by the competent authorities, to visit the Detention Centers for third-country nationals and the Detention Center for Unaccompanied Minors, both in Amigdaleza, in order to provide medical and pharmaceutical care to the detained persons. Doctors of the World-Greece note that Public Health issues should not be dependent upon the legal and administrative status of a person. Access to the Public Healthcare System, as well as to all structures related to health, should be universal.
On these grounds, the Polyclinics of Doctors of the World-Greece remain open to all those in need, while the Organization makes every possible effort, despite the overload of its structures, to cover the needs of vulnerable populations.
Attached is a detailed report of the assessment missions of Doctors of the World-Greece at the detention centers of Amigdaleza and Elliniko.
