On Thursday November 8th, representatives of HYGEIA Group MITERA Children’s Hospital delivered the fourth round of vaccines. This was the last round for 2012 and comprised 300 basic vaccines of 8 different types which will help protect children against the following diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, haemophilus influenza, measles, rubella, parotitis, chickenpox, and hepatitis A & B.

Please be reminded that the free vaccination program for children who turn to Médecins du Monde clinic of Perama, was launched at the end of 2011. The program was intended to address the needs of those children who -due to the adverse economic conditions- have been deprived of their fundamental right: their right to health care and medication.

Mr. Nikitas Kanakis, Director of Médecins du Monde Greek board of directors, has pointed out: “In such troubled times and amid deep recession, the support provided by Group HYGEIA sets a great example for others to follow. Child vaccination is a basic right of all children rather than a privilege of some and children’s safety should be of top priority to all of us.

On her part, CEO of HYGEIA Group, Ms. Areti Souvatzoglou, stated “In such adverse circumstances we ought to support the most susceptible population group: the children. The free vaccination program filled the needs of about 1,000 children who had been deprived of their right to have access to basic vaccination. Besides, children are the center of the world to all of us who work at MITERA Children’s Hospital. MITERA Children’s Hospital is the most adequate tertiary children’s health care provider in Greece and in its almost 10 years of operation has been extending a helping hand to children and their families with respect and accountability, fully addressing all their needs.”
