A group of Greek doctors from Doctors of the World is preparing to depart for Israel on a mission to monitor the health and welfare conditions of Greeks and other third country nationals, who are currently under Israeli detention, were arrested in breach of international law while they were sailing in international waters on a ship with a Greek flag.
The violent and murderous intervention and occupation of Greek ships and other seafaring vessels, which were involved in an international humanitarian mission “a boat for Gaza” by the Israeli navy, is a blow to peace, stability and international legitimacy. It also constitutes a flagrant violation of international law regarding the offering of humanitarian aid to suffering people. In regard to the successful completion of the mission, MdM are in consultation with relevant international medical organizations, including those in Turkey and Israel, to ensure that the mission is to have an international character.
