Today, the MdM team with the mobile medical unit will be visiting villages of Katogi with a view to evaluating the situation and providing health care services. The visits in this area will be conducted on a daily basis during afternoon hours.

Most of the earthquake victims have not walked away from their properties, instead they choose to sleep in vehicles and temporary constructions (e.g garages). Most residents would not stay in the tents of the camp that were set on a football field, since these were pitched straight on the grass without a bottom cover to protect from the humidity and the rain.

Despite the large quantities of bottled water, which have already been shipped to the island, there is still serious shortage of potable water, since there is still extensive damage in the public water supply system. There is also pressing need for personal hygiene products and relevant facilities.

With regard to medical needs, there is urgent need to support the patients of chronic diseases and provide the relevant medicines necessary.

On Saturday, February 8th 2014, a second MdM dispatch team will arrive at Kefalonia along with a psychosocial support team.
