Program aimed to promote tolerance and prevention of racist violence in Greece.

In these days of unprecedented economic and social crisis, which leads to steep rise of xenophobic and racist phenomena, Médecins du Monde and the Greek Council for Refugees join their forces in the implementation of the program called “ENOUGH!” The program is supported by the Open Society Foundations as part of the Fund to Counter Xenophobia. The aim of the program is to sensitize and inform the public about: the pernicious repercussions of racism; the need to combat racist crimes; the need to end impunity for perpetrators of such crimes; and the protection of victims. It is also aimed at promoting all necessary actions that will help adopt an official National Strategy in the combating of this phenomenon, as well as to push for the elaboration of a National Review amongst other actions.

In the scope of this program, the two organizations undertake important initiatives to fight against the impunity for perpetrators of racist crimes by providing legal support to victims of racist violence. They proceed to all necessary actions to ensure that such cases are properly handled by the Greek Justice system. At the same time, they provide victims with full medical care as part of their efforts to ensure victims’ multifarious protection.

The program “ENOUGH!”  aims to:

1. provide victims of racist violence with advocacy and to fully support those cases that reach the Greek Courts.

2. to ensure victims receive full medical care at the Open Clinics of Médecins du Monde

3. to provide social and psychological support to victims

4. to push for the elaboration of a National Review on Xenophobia and Racist Violence in Greece

5. to launch an awareness and sensitization campaign on social media

6. to conduct visits to secondary education schools of Attica, in areas where the issue of xenophobic and racist violence is rather serious

In addition, enough@mdmgreece.gr  is an email address that was set up to facilitate the recording of racist attacks incidents; to help track down the victims and to help gather evidence in support of the cases that are brought to Justice. All individuals and organizations who wish to support this effort are welcomed to contact this email address.
