Within the framework of the program “Health for All” on the 21st and 22nd of September Doctors of the World – Greece conducted a visit to the island of Kythnos (Peripheral Center of Dryopida-Kythnos) aiming to provide free primary health care services. The objective of the Program was to effectively provide treatments to general health problems as well as to support the vulnerable population in the region. The program is addressed to people who have limited access to the Public Health System due to either financial or social criteria.
The Mobile Units of Doctors of the World – Greece suitably equipped with thoroughly trained and experienced medical and paramedical professionals provided free, amongst other services, gynecological medical tests Pap smear, breast examination, cardiograms, ophthalmic examinations and cardiological check-ups. Particular attention was paid to children, providing them with pediatric check-ups vaccinations and medicines.
The Medical Team consisted of Gynecologist a Pediatrician an Ophthalmologist and a Cardiologist.
On average 285 people were examined. Specifically 65 children were examined by the pediatrician, 55 women by the gynecologist, 56 people by the cardiologist and 109 people by the ophthalmologist.
Doctors of the World – Greece express their warmest thanks to the Municipality of Kythnos, the Peripheral Clinic of the island and the General Hospital of Syros, as well as the local authorities for their support and collaboration.
