The program will be launched on June 13th, 2012 at the Tinanios Garden (11:00am-5:00pm) and will include tracing, diagnostic and advisory services. As for primary healthcare, the Mobile Medical Unit will provide gynecology and pediatric medical services free of charge.

This Mobile Unit that has been suitably modified and equipped, is staffed by a general physician, a general practitioner, a pediatrician, a gynecologist and a cardiologist. Particular stress will be laid on the effort to provide vaccination to the city’s uninsured children.

As stated by Board President of KODEP, Mrs Paschalina Kalagia-Karamalakou, the presence of Médecins du Monde in Piraeus will greatly reinforce the Municipality efforts to develop a social safety net which already consists of: hostels for homeless people and cancer patients, a social grocery, a love Bank etc. Not only will the needs of poor and vulnerable groups of our city’s population be filled to the possible extent, but at the same time the presence of MdM will be a launch pad for setting up an open Clinic in Piraeus.

On his part, Mr Nikitas Kanakis, president of Médecins du Monde, points out that backing up local actions which provide for those who, nowadays, the state seems to have given up on, is of top priority to the Organization. He appealed to citizens of Piraeus to join and support KODEP in its efforts to collect food and essentials to be distributed to the city’s poorest families.
