Lately, Médecins du Monde(MdM)- Doctors of the World Greece have been witnessing an alarming increase in the number of violence related cases within FYROM’s territory. The aforementioned incidents, recorded at MdM’s Clinic in Idomeni, refer to third country nationals who try to enter the country without authorization.
Based on our medical findings, these people have wounds in their arms, legs, face and other parts of their bodies. According to their testimonies, their wounds were caused by the irrational use of violence by FYROM’s security forces. More particularly, from December 12th, 2015 to January 10th, 2016 we have recorded a total of 263 such testimonies, whereas, during the last week, one out of two recorded incidents was related to physical violence.
Doctors of the World Greece would like to express their deep concern regarding the escalation of the incidents that involve violation of human rights in the Greek-FYROM border region. They would also like to state that, by continuing to provide healthcare services at Idomeni, they will actively remain on the side of people who look for a refuge in Europe.
