The victims are often targeted because of their immigrant status rather than by their gender or age. These incidents usually occur in the morning in the Agios Panteleimon area and are systematic attacks that aim to “cleanse the area.”

With great anxiety and concern, MdM-Greece watches racist attacks by “indignant citizens” multiplying. Victims are immigrants of all ages and both genders. These events always happen in the morning in the Agios Panteleimon area. The attacks are a systematic program aimed at “area cleansing.”

Doctors of the World witnessed the brutality of these incidents in the evening of Saturday, September 11 when a group of 20 well-armed “citizens” attacked with iron bars MdM translator Kadir Hussain, who was beaten and punched into unconsciousness! This occurred inspite of the fact that he was carrying the insignia of the organization.

MdM declares their determination to stand against these organized racist gangs who seek to sow terror by turning the streets of Athens into battlefields and victimizing defenseless immigrants. In the past 20 years, we have defended vigorously and without counting the cost, the right of every person to live with dignity, free from fear, both outside and within Greece. We will continue doing this even more strongly now that racism is beating at our door
