Every time we travel long distances with our mobile medical units and meet people in remote areas we feel a special kind of joy. As if somehow our family is getting bigger. Because all those who come to be examined, to talk to a doctor and to share their problems and needs, open up a door and we become one of them.
In Kimi Rodopi we met old friends and new ones. Elders and young children came to the village’s primary school, where it was made into a medical clinic, to be examined by a gynecologist, pediatrician and pathologist/gerontologist. They were also informed about protection measures against the Covid19 pandemic and vaccination.
And when it started rainning heavily, we went to them, to their homes.
The remote areas of Greece have a rare beauty. But they also have great difficulties. Preventive medical check-ups for the locals are almost non-existent. Even mild cases can pose serious risks without immediate access to health care. But still, in the remote areas of Greece, you will find people you want to meet again. Soon.
