Accommodation Centre for Unaccompanied Minors
Title of the Action: “Grand support to Doctors of the World – Greek Delegation, for the implementation of the project titled: “Operation of the accommodation center for unaccompanied minors” with the MIS 5017626. The action is co-funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), for the period from 01.01.2018 until 31.12.2018.
The implementation concerns the continuation of the accommodation center for unaccompanied minors with capacity of 32 people – aged 12 to 18 years old – operated by Doctors of the World in the Municipality of Athens. Key activities include the provision of safe and healthy housing and living for homeless unaccompanied minors, the provision of supportive psycho-social services in a capacity of 32 beds divided into 8 distinct quadruple rooms.
The aim of the action is to protect young homeless unaccompanied minors and to address the impact of the phenomenon of children and adolescents exposed to the risk of exploitation. In addition, it contributes to the inclusion of unaccompanied minors in Greek schools education, as well as in other support networks.
The Accommodation Centre of Unaccompanied Minors is operational since August 2016, in a five-storey building, 7 days a week, throughout the year, as well as on holidays and public holidays. It is operated by trained staff of various specialties (social workers, psychologists, lawyers, carer takers, cooks, interpreters, administrative staff and cleaners) who work in shifts.
