Lesvos 2020 | Emergency Medical Response

MdM-Greece implements an emergency response project in order to respond to refugees’ and asylum seekers’ immediate needs in the aftermath of the fire that destroyed Moria camp on Lesvos in September 2020. The temporary accommodation site in Mavrovouni on Lesvos was established following the fire in Moria camp and it currently houses about 7,600 people. The majority are young families and children.
People staying in tents will need all sorts of NFIs in order to set up their households. Most carried few belongings with them, other nothing. Women and children in particular, that amount to approximately half of this population, are in dire need of gender and age sensitive health support.
Based on the organization’s long-time field experience on the island of Lesvos, our teams strive to facilitate access to quality primary health services, including Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and paediatrics; to offer basic mental health and psycho social support (MHPSS) services; to identify and support the most vulnerable and complex cases among the target population with quality and tailored case management; to raise awareness and empower the camp’s population through fostering a culture of community health and hygiene; to collaborate with other actors inside and outside the camp and across different levels (local, national etc.) in view of synergies and amplifying impact.

The priorities of the organization, are to strengthen the resilience of the most vulnerable asylum seekers to deal with the current situation and to offer access to a comprehensive package of Primary Health Care Services (PHC) to the most vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees.
