In collaboration with the NGOs PRAKSIS, Centre for Life (Kentro Zois) and Positive Voice, Doctors of the World – Greece implement the project “Public Health: Prevention – Testing – Support” , in the cities of Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras and Chania, the main goal of which is the early diagnosis of HIV infection and Hepatitis C and the increased access to medical and psychosocial support through outreach approach and screening in the community, especially for individuals at high risk.
The main activities of the project are: the realization of quick examination for HIV and HCV, psychosocial support and legal counseling and information on the prevention of HIV and HCV.

The activities take place at structures of the NGOs and Mobile Units: pre-counseling with information, training and orientation for the ways of transmission and protection of HIV and HEP C. After the examination, psychosocial support is provided as well as information on issues that may occur after the announcement of the result. In case that antibodies are found, there is an immediate referral to the Infectious Diseases Units of Hospitals and Directly Observed Treatment is provided.

At the same time, activities of public awareness of the society for the ways of transmission, prevention, the importance of preventive examination and the abrogation of stigmatization are realized. Finally, an epidemiological study is going to be held for the scientific planning of right policies for the prevention and the treatment of HIV infection.

The project is funded by the NGO Program “We are all Citizens” which is part of the EEA & Norway Grants for Greece, while the Foundation Bodossaki is the Fund Operator.
