Supporting Roma

Most Roma camps are located in deprived areas, without access to electricity or running water and residents are therefore at higher risk of being exposed to infections and bacteria.

For several years now, Médecins du Monde has been operating a mobile unit that provides primary health care to the ROM population living in camps throughout Greece (mainly Athens and Thessaloniki). The unit visits ROM camps providing medical and pharmaceutical care, with special focus on the vaccination coverage of children, preventive care and health education. Finally, cases that require special care are referred to the relevant services of other organizations or agencies.

The program is carried out by the organization’s own resources.
