Emergency Intervention program for Vulnerable People 60+
The Organization of Doctors of the World – Greece, continues for the second year the Emergency Response action against the Covid19 pandemic, providing medical and psychosocial support to socially and financially vulnerable elderly people who due to restrictive measures for the protection of public health, are even more isolated.
The action consists of three main pillars: a) with door-to-door visits b) remote counseling and psychosocial support and c) the continuation of the pilot program of the Online Society for the elderly.
Health and psychosocial support professionals are available daily from 09.00 to 17.00 for remote counseling and support through new telecommunications media.
The team of MdM consists of a social worker, doctor, psychologist and nurse who make door-to-door visits for free medical assistance to the elderly through the execution of electronic prescriptions in collaboration as well as with the appropriate referral by the social services of Municipalities (Athens, Perama, Keratsini etc.), but also remote communication with the beneficiaries for psychosocial support sessions. Also, through the application of the Online Companionship, a group of elderly people coordinates weekly with the psychologist and the geriatrician of the program, where they attend presentations and participate in the discussion on issues related to the elderly.
The implementation of the program is co-financed by The Hellenic Initiative of Canada and TIMA Foundation.
