In 2012 alone, Médecins du Monde of Greece have seen more than 10.000 children at their clinics (more specifically: 6,837 children have been examined by pediatrician, 4,618 have been examined by dentist and 2,810 have been vaccinated).
Médecins du Monde deem the best way to add true meaning to a world day of this kind is for the Greek State to, at long last, seriously consider the Children’s Rights Ombudsman’s recommendations (www.0-18.gr) . With regards to medical care, in particular, we entirely endorse Children’s Rights Ombudsman’s proposal:
“All children should receive health care and if need be, they should be hospitalized irrespective of whether they are medically covered by insurance or not. In the case of foreign children who are not able to cover their medical expenses, an attestation of poverty should be issued, regardless of whether they stay in the country legally or not.”
