Wherever there are people…
Athens 1990 | Statute of Médecins du Monde
…Us who sign the present statute: doctors, dentists, pharmacists and medical staff, once more, we actively proclaim our commitment to the effort initiated on the day we took the Hippocratic Oath: to provide the best possible services to the people, by exercising our vocation the way our conscience dictates, according to medical ethics and, without being hampered by pain, fatigue or any other physical or mental suffering.
Us who, on a daily basis, face the misfortunes of our fellow human beings, we live among human beings, who need us and yearn for our care -patients, disabled and injured people- we relate to their anxieties, insecurities and pains, but we also share their hopes.
Us who are deeply concerned by the daily deterioration of values in the name of money, exploitation, obsession for power, and the growing alienation of man from man, as well as by the fact that people are left to the mercy of fate.
Therefore, all of us, who always keep in mind the Hippocratic Oath, we take action in order to find solutions to our concerns and to offer our help to populations affected by earthquakes, epidemics, natural disasters, mass problems or those who are at war and in general, to any person who suffers, physically or mentally.
These are the reasons that have led us to set up an organization named “Médecins du Monde – Greek Delegation” which is based in Athens…
