Encardia teamed up with Technopolis of Athens Municipality; “Médecins du Monde; the alternative community of KETHEA Paremvasi; and the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation(ERT) and all together held a big celebration, attended by 6.000 Athenians. For admission fee, in lieu of money everyone had been asked to bring a box of medicines of a can of kids milk! 5 tons of medicines and 10,000 cans of milk were collected: enough to cover the needs of Médecins du Monde for six months! The concert of encardia with Elias Logothetis as a guest artist, was broadcast live on ERT and the slogan “our response to crisis is solidarity”, which was the motto of that evening, was heard loud all over Greece.
For months, everyone talked about the Greek wonder of how the close and incredibly effective coordination of all the above mentioned organizations rendered it possible to offer relief to several hundreds of people and to support the valuable work of Médecins du Monde.

Two years later, a lot has changed. The “Doctors” still carry on their struggle, however, nowadays scores of destitute Greeks, homeless and uninsured inundate the Doctor’s offices in Koumoundourou, and the magnitude of needs is often overwhelming. The alternative community of KETHEA Paremvasi continues their “wonder-work”, with even less means and resources, while increasingly more young people turn to KETHEA for support and detoxification programs. The Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) does not exist anymore, while many people around us live on the verge of depression and desperation. Children’s rights to health, education and peace within and beyond their homes, shake us and awaken us to action.
This year, encardia celebrate their 10 years of presence on the Greek music scene. Let’s put together a giant birthday cake made of medicines and antibiotics. Let’s garnish it with a rich “frosting” made of 20,000 cans of kids milk. Let’s light it up with thousands of flames, as thousands sparks of hope for our fellow human beings, for our children, and for ourselves. Our Response to Crisis is Solidarity! One more time. For ever.
